HURDCOTT
About Hurdcott
A rare opportunity to experience one of Wiltshire's most charming and sought-after family shoots.
Nestled within more than 1,500 acres of rolling downland, mature woodland and picturesque river valley, Hurdcott is widely regarded as one of the finest private shoots in southern England. Owned and run by George Stephenson, a passionate shot and dedicated host, the shoot has been carefully developed to make the most of its stunning natural landscape, creating exceptional sporting opportunities throughout the season.
Commencing in mid-October, Hurdcott offers a mixture of challenging pheasant and partridge shooting, with drives that provide both variety and quality sport for visiting teams. The combination of beautiful countryside, well-presented birds and thoughtful shoot management ensures every day is memorable.
At its heart, Hurdcott remains very much a family shoot, renowned for its warm welcome and wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. Only a limited number of let days are offered each season, making an invitation to shoot at Hurdcott something of a privilege and available dates highly sought after.
Guests are welcomed to Hurdcott House with tea and coffee in the drawing room before the day begins. Lunch is served in the dining room, while a generous elevenses in the field ensures guns are well looked after throughout the day. Following the final drive, teams return to the house for traditional afternoon tea and the opportunity to reflect on an enjoyable day’s sport.
George and his wife Lucilla are exceptional hosts, creating an atmosphere that is both convivial and welcoming from arrival through to departure. Their hospitality, combined with excellent shooting and an outstanding setting, has earned Hurdcott an extremely loyal following amongst discerning guns.
For those seeking a traditional English shoot that offers outstanding sport, genuine hospitality and an exclusive, family-run experience, Hurdcott remains one of the country’s hidden treasures.
