At the heart of the K-80’s engineering is its unique sliding top latch, delivering exceptional lock-up strength, seamless barrel interchangeability, and long-term durability. By securing the barrels to the receiver at the optimal leverage point, the top latch eliminates the need for underbites or side-lugs — simplifying barrel fitting and allowing a single receiver to accommodate a wide range of barrel configurations.

The top latch is designed to slide forward as barrels wear, maintaining a tight, solid feel even after hundreds of thousands of rounds — a testament to Krieghoff’s commitment to longevity and precision.

The K-80 features a single selective mechanical trigger with a crisp, positive feel. Its wide, smooth trigger shoe has a deeply curved profile for enhanced control and comfort, and can be adjusted for optimal grip length. For competitive trap shooters, Release Trigger systems are available by special order in both Single and Double Release configurations. The K-80/RT model even offers a removable trigger unit, making it easy to switch to a Release setup.

A barrel selector sits just ahead of the trigger and can be locked in place with a hex wrench to prevent accidental switching — giving shooters confidence and control in any discipline.

The K-80 features a large, non-automatic sliding safety positioned traditionally on the top tang, just behind the opening lever. A prominent button must be pressed to disengage the safety, ensuring deliberate operation.

For competition use, the safety can be locked in the “off” position with a hex wrench to prevent accidental engagement and lost targets. When used in the field, the safety can be made active, providing reliable control in all shooting environments.
