Gun Shop Sales Assistant

Ian Coley Sporting is one of the UK’s leading destinations for game and clay shooters. We are currently seeking a Sales Assistant to join our Gun Shop team. This role is responsible for assisting the Gun Room Manager in delivering exceptional sales and customer service, ensuring the highest levels of customer satisfaction at all times.

With a primary focus on the sale and management of shotguns, firearms, airguns, cartridges and shooting accessories, this is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a genuine passion for shooting sports to work in a dynamic, customer-facing environment. A strong knowledge of Section 1 firearms and ammunition is highly desirable.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist in the delivery of the Company’s business objectives and support the Gun Room Manager in the day-to-day operation of the department.
  • Provide a professional, knowledgeable and high level of service to both internal and external customers, ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction at all times.
  • Assist customers with the purchase of shotguns, rifles, airguns, ammunition, cartridges and shooting accessories, providing expert advice where appropriate.
  • Book in new and second-hand guns, manage Guntrader listings, and assist with the valuation and purchase of second-hand firearms.
  • Advise customers on gun repairs, servicing options and after-sales support.
  • Support stock control and reordering across firearms, ammunition, cartridges and accessories.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers and industry contacts.
  • Respond to telephone and email enquiries in a timely, professional and courteous manner.
  • Assist with cashing up, banking and associated administrative duties.
  • Maintain high standards of gun room presentation, housekeeping and security.
  • Contribute positively to the wider team and support colleagues across the business when required.
  • Take ownership of personal development and continuously enhance product and industry knowledge to meet business needs.
  • Ensure effective use of and compliance with all relevant IT systems, company policies, procedures and firearms legislation.

Ideal Candidate

  • Strong knowledge of Section 1 firearms and ammunition is highly desirable, with a good understanding of shotguns, airguns and shooting accessories.
  • Experience in a similar retail, gun room or shooting-related environment would be advantageous, though training will be provided.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build rapport and confidence with a wide range of customers.
  • Confident, organised and proactive, with strong attention to detail and a professional approach to work.
  • Comfortable using IT systems and able to learn new software and processes quickly.

This role involves weekend work (Saturdays only). You will need access to your own transport as we are based in a rural location.
