What a Fantastic Event!

Friday 25th September 2026 saw shooters from across the region gather at Ian Coley Sporting for the inaugural Real Deal with Steel, a unique competition designed to help shooters gain confidence in the transition to non-toxic ammunition. The event proved a fantastic success, combining competitive clay shooting with valuable hands-on experience using steel cartridges in a true competition setting.

Competitors tackled four carefully designed sportrap layouts, each featuring steel cartridges from leading manufacturers. With cartridges included in the entry fee, shooters had the opportunity to directly compare performance, recoil characteristics and overall confidence with different loads.

The event was proudly supported by leading cartridge manufacturers Eley, RC, Fiocchi and Hull, giving shooters the chance to experience a variety of non-toxic loads side by side. Alongside the shooting layouts, visitors could also explore displays and speak with representatives from some of the industry's biggest shotgun manufacturers, including Browning, Blaser, Krieghoff, Beretta and Caesar Guerini. Teague Chokes were also on hand to provide invaluable advice on steel proofing, choke selection and gun suitability, helping shooters better understand the practical considerations of making the switch to steel shot.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who supported the event. To all the shooters who entered and embraced the challenge, the cartridge manufacturers who supplied and showcased their products, the shotgun manufacturers who attended, and the team at Teague Chokes whose extensive knowledge was appreciated by so many on the day, thank you for helping make the event such a success.

The Real Deal with Steel was created to provide an enjoyable, informative and confidence-building shooting experience, and the feedback received throughout the day suggests it achieved exactly that
