First Impressions of the Perazzi MX12
Even the looks alone make the Perazzi shotguns stand out. From their base line black action guns, right the way through to the SCO Extra Golds, everything is finished exquisitely. You can see why so many of the 'top shots' use these guns. Everything is customisable – from the woodwork and engraving to the rib width and bead style that you like – you can really make one of these the exact way you want.
When the gun is open in your hands you can notice the extra bit of weight that they carry, the average 12 gauges are around the 8lb mark, but once the gun is closed and in your shoulder that weight completely disappears, there is nothing unwieldly about these guns. You could easily see the gun being used in every situation you would need them for, everything from your traditional English partridges through to the stratospheric pheasants in the deep dark Welsh valleys.
Shooting the Perazzi MX12
We tested the MX12 on low driven targets and some targets off our high towers. There was absolutely no need to warm up with the Perazzi - with that neutral balance point, everything just felt like an extension of the arm.
You can pick the target up as soon or as late as you want to, and the gun is always where it needs to be. There is absolutely zero felt-recoil to the MX12, this comes down to the wide competition-based action that Perazzi use. You could easily get away with using 34 or 36 gram loads and not get beaten up by the recoil.
Overall opinion
There is no doubt that Perazzi make some of the best guns available, and this is evidenced in the way that they shoot. The absence of felt-recoil coupled with the almost wand-like feeling of these guns truly make them a joy to shoot.
